Kedar Tal is situated at an altitude of 4,425 metres above sea level and about 18 kms. from Gangotri. The lake is so clear that the reflections of the Thalaiyasagar peaks are clearly visible in the water. But if you want to trek up the near-by places, make sure that you are well prepared because it can be a pretty tiring one. Also, make sure you take a tour guide with you to Kedar Tal since the route can be a little tough.
The water of the Kedar Tal is absolutely blue in color as a result of the glaciers that surround it. The Kedar Tal lake is considered to be a sacred lake by the devotees that come here each year. This lake is believed to have formed as a result of the melted snow of the Kedar glacier. Even at this high altitude, one can easily spot some rich variety of fauna.
The Kedar Tal Lake is surrounded by some beautiful green forests which are home to some of the animals like Bharal or Blue Sheep, Goral and the Himalayan Black Bear as well.
Not only this, Kedar Tal also acts as the base camp for trekking to Thalaiyasagar, Jogin and Bhrigupanth. Treks for other Himalayan peaks can also be planned from Kedar Tal. But keep in mind that this trek can be quite a tough one and hence you must have a guide with you, who would guide you all the way. The best season to visit Kedar Tal is during June and October.
