Apart from savoring the beauty that Kalsi has to offer, one can also indulge in shopping. Vikasnagar, which is located just about 10 kms. from Kalsi is a small township which has been flourishing . It is more like what Dehradun was about 20 years ago. One can find good quality opium, turmeric, chillies and ginger; it also acts as the wholesale depot for potato and ginger.
Not only these, one can practically buy anything in Kalsi, right from foreign items to some of the most beautiful and attractive salwar kameez that are priced reasonably. But if there is one thing which a traveler visiting Kalsi should get, it has to be the local Jaunsari drums and bugles, trumpets and icons in brass and copper available at the bartanwallah.
Vikasnagar, located close by is known as the Paris of the Jaunsari tribe who live in these hills. If one is tired from all the shopping, they can visit the various restaurants for a bite, and continue their shopping spree.
