Auli is a recently developed ski resort, located in
the Chamoli district in the state of Uttarakhand. It is one of the
lesser known hill resorts in India. It is a beautiful place and very
famous among the tourists. Even during the summer months, it remains a
major tourist attraction because of its lovely weather.
Not only this, it also offers great treks to nearby places and acts as
a good ski-resort from the month of November - March depending on the
amount of snowfall it receives.
One of the most famous things to do in Auli is to take the ropeway from
Joshimath to Auli, which is one of the longest in India. It covers a
distance of 4.15 kilometres. Auli is also one of the Asia's finest ski
resort.
The 180 degree panoramic view that the place provides must be seen to
be believed. It is absolutely majestic. Nanda Devi, Karmet, Mana, etc.
are some of the peaks that are visible from Auli. The Garhwal Tourism
also provides its guest houses for overnight stay as well.
Before Auli was a ski resort, it was used for training the army men and
the personnel of the Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). There are many
peaks that are located around Auli, the prime one being the 23,490 feet
high Trishul. Skiers in Auli are provided with clean stretches of 10-20
km of snow-covered mountain slopes.
