The Phool Dei festival is a special festival which
marks the welcoming of spring season, by praying for general well being
and by preparation of special foods. Young girls are the most keen to
participate in this festival. They gather together and fill their plates
with rice, jaggery, leaves and flowers. Many artists perform on this
occasion.
The various artists, during this occasion generally sing Rituram,
Chaiti to greet the festival of spring. They are given various gifts,
presents, money and even food items as a token of appreciation. There is
a special dish prepared during this occasion is called Sei. Flour, curd
and jaggery are the main ingredients of this sweet dish.
This festival is celebrated on the first day of the month of Chaitra
according to the Hindu calendar. It falls approximately in the middle of
the month of January. In certain places, this festival is celebrated
throughout the month though.
