artifacts. The Jamia mosque, which is located in the center of Leh
bazaar is a historical mosque built during 17th century. There is the
famous Thiksay monastery, which resonates with an ambience of
peacefulness and serenity. The spirituality and compassion deeply
associated with Buddhism has seeped into the lifestyle of the people of
this land. Among the other monasteries are Stakna, Hemis, Chemrey,
Takthok and Matho. If you are interested in excursions then there are
lots of options for you like Nubra valley, which is situated north of
Leh. There is Pangong Lake, which straddles the Indo China border. Tso
Moriri Lake is also a place to visit it is the only breeding ground of
the rare bar-headed geese and is home to rare species of birds.
Shopping in Ladakh
You have lots of shopping options in Ladakh. You can shop for
traditional items like a goncha (Ladakhi gown), silver jewelry,
traditional statues and masks, hand-knitted carpets and woolens. You
must also go for the pure apricot oil, which is used as pain reliever.
